Bonnie Brown Memorial Scholarship
Bonnie Brown, CPP, joined the American Payroll Association, Dallas Chapter in 1984 and received the Certified Payroll Professional designation in 1986. She authored “Fundamentals of Payroll” in 1987 and instructed classes by the same name at Northlake College. Bonnie was President of the APA Dallas Chapter for the 1987/1988 and 1988/1989 terms during which time she was instrumental in the forming of the “Principals of Payroll Administration” classes at Northlake and participated in the administration and instruction of these classes for 2 years. She served as Past President through March 1991 and passed away on August 30, 1995. The Chapter established a scholarship in 1993 but it was renamed in honor of Bonnie in 1995.
After Bonnie’s passing, the Dallas Chapter has remained committed to offering quality educational opportunities for our members to help them achieve the American Payroll Association certifications. This unique scholarship is for the DAPA member who is actively seeking to obtain an FPC or CPP designation.
The scholarship will include a Dallas Chapter Spring or Fall Certification Bundle, current PayrollOrg Payroll Source (choice of online version or hardcopy) and we will pay for your exam fee. The winner will need to enroll in the educational and Dallas Chapter courses and for the exam within one year of receipt of the scholarship.
To be eligible for the Bonnie Brown Memorial Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Current member of the Dallas Chapter in good standing
- Not hold the FPC or CPP certification
- Worked in the payroll field for a minimum of 2 years
- Not previously been awarded a Dallas Chapter scholarship

Misty Roper Memorial Scholarship
Misty Roper was the payroll administrator for the City of Coppell for more than 20 years and long-time member of the Dallas Chapter. She served on the Dallas Chapter Board of Directors for several years and served on the Texas Payroll Conference Board for over five years, ending as Vice President in 2005. Misty passed away in 2007, and DAPA started this scholarship in 2015 to recognize exceptional payroll professionals who have dedicated themselves to education and mentorship.
The Misty Roper Memorial Scholarship is for a Dallas Chapter member who is seeking recertification credit hours (RCH). The winner will be awarded a Dallas Chapter Spring or Fall Certification Bundle and a PAYO Webinar (up to $300). The winner will need to enroll in the educational and Dallas Chapter courses, and for the PAYO Webinar within one year of receipt of the scholarship.
To be eligible for the Misty Roper Scholarship, the candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Current member of the Dallas Chapter in good standing
- Currently hold the FPC or CPP certification
- Not a previous Misty Roper Scholarship recipient in the past five (5) years
